thinking about how my dad fled his home country at 19 in the middle of a war and then after 9/11 came to my preschool to educate kids on middle eastern culture/food/clothing so they wouldn’t be scared of people in traditional/religious dress or worry when they heard someone speaking arabic

this post has started blowing up. for those who have liked/reblogged this: i am asking you to please circulate and donate to palestinian gofundme’s/other resources for palestine. i’m glad people find this story heartwarming but i want people to be vigilant in not letting the palestinian genocide just fizzle out of the news cycle like it’s some “trend”. do not turn a blind eye to ethnic cleansing, it is very much real and happening right now. if you can afford to donate, please do so. but Everyone is capable of using their voice, whether it be online or in their communities through organizing/protesting. i do not wanna hear shit about “empathetic burnout” from those who have FAR more privilege than these people could probably ever dream of in their lifetime. do not let apathy take hold, palestine will be free 🇵🇸

I know I don’t shut up about this but frankly not enough people are angry about the 5-day/40 hour workweek (and I am AWARE a lot of people work even more than that). I feel like a lot more people should be absolutely furious that we only really have two days a week and some occasional hours in the evening to socialise, run errands, do chores, or relax.

It’s no wonder so many people are profoundly lonely and disconnected from their communities when maintaining a social life in what little free time we have is incredibly difficult. If you have kids, a second job, a very long commute, or other responsibilities, it’s nearly impossible.

We literally aren’t meant to live like this and I’ll never stop being shocked how many people just take it as the natural state of things and don’t want to throw a brick through a billionaire’s window every time they think of it.

Fuck yeah!

Reminder from a politically obsessed Michigander: every progressive policy Michigan has passed in the last two years was made possible by citizen ballot initiatives that a) ended partisan gerrymandering and b) expanded voting rights and ballot access.

Recent legislation passed under Michigan’s Democratic trifecta (both levels of legislature and the governor):

  • Red flag laws (gun control)
  • Free 2 years higher education (economy)
  • Free preschool (economy)
  • Free school lunch (economy)
  • Expanded child tax credit for working families (economy)
  • Expanded civil rights law to include LGBTQIA+ protections
  • Ended right to work (pro-union economy)
  • Codified abortion protections (these were also passed by citizen ballot initiative though)
  • Stopped local governments from blocking green energy projects like solar and wind (environmental)
  • Banned child marriage (marriage before 18. You’d be surprised how many Republicans went on the record against this)
  • Actually, don’t take my word for it: here’s a list
